Weeks Burger Meat (aka Slug Burger)

About the Recipe:

The Weeks Burger was created by John Weeks back in the days of the Great Depression. It became a very popular burger in the Southeast region of the United States of America. This recipe was adapted for modern ingredients by John Weeks (a descendant of John Weeks – the creator of the Weeks Burger), and the photo(s) provided were taken by him as well.

Ingredients:

  • Ground Pork (1/2 lb)
  • Corn Meal (1 cup)
  • Flour (1/3 cup)
  • Salt (1 tbs)
  • Water (1 to 2 tsp as needed to make mixture more pliable)
  • Vegetable Oil (1 cup)

Instructions:

  • Mix dry ingredients
  • Add ground pork
  • Mix until well combined
  • Add water if too dry (but not too much)
  • Flatten into thin patties
  • Fry in vegetable oil on medium heat until just beyond golden brown
  • Enjoy on a plain bun with cheese, pickles, onions (optional), and mustard
